Earwig delivers a huge range of thunderously beautiful fuzz sounds, stuffed into the smallest effects pedal on the planet. This pedal may be tiny, but it has more than enough might to invade your ears with ferocious distortion and sustain.
Earwig delivers a huge range of thunderously beautiful fuzz sounds, stuffed into the smallest effects pedal on the planet. This pedal may be tiny, but it has more than enough might to invade your ears with ferocious distortion and sustain.
Inspired by the 1969 Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi*, Earwig shoehorns a giant variety of iconic fuzz sounds into the smallest effects pedal ever created. Roaring distortion, pulverizing crunch, and syrupy sustain—all in a comically small footprint.
Earwig utilizes four cascading gain stages, featuring silicon transistors and symmetrical clipping diodes, producing rich sustain and pleasing harmonic distortion. The circuit’s signature tone stack blends treble-boosted and bass-boosted frequencies, yielding an extensive range of versatile fuzz tones. It’s like magic, but it’s actually science.
Earwig features one TRRS jack combining input, output, and power. Earwig comes with a breakout cable for your connections. Blue is INPUT, red is OUTPUT, and black is POWER.
Shapes the contour of the distorted tone. Left is darker, mellower, and moodier, with more bass and less treble. Right is brighter with more sparkle and high end. Choose your own adventure.
Where’s the footswitch? How the heck do I turn this thing on? With Earwig, the whole pedal is the switch. It’s hinged at the top. Press below the knobs to turn it on. Press again to turn it off. Press it again if you’re feeling fancy.
Left for quiet, right for loud, but you already knew this. Acts like an overall volume control for the entire pedal, so you’re kind of in charge here.
LED is illuminated red when the pedal is on. LED may also illuminate in the middle of the night if Earwig is feeling lonely. Your pedal may occasionally require cuddles.
Controls the amount of distortion and sustain. Left for less, right for more. Lefty loosey, righty tighty.
Earwig gives you beautifully ferocious fuzz tones and luscious sustain in a package that’s nearly as small as a 9-volt battery. Yes, we’re aware that a fuzz pedal this tiny is a bit ridiculous. But by challenging our notions of what an effects pedal has to be, a new world of possibilities opened up that we never expected. Turns out, making it small also makes it pretty awesome.
No matter how little space you have, there’s always room for the colossal fuzz sounds of Earwig. Its small size allows it to be placed where no pedal has gone before. Running out of room on your pedalboard? No need to kick other pedals off your board—Earwig fits in the smallest open spaces in your rig. You can even place it on top of another pedal. Stack ‘em high!
An effects pedal this small is weird, but want to get even weirder? Stick Earwig on the side of your guitar. No space left in your Eurorack setup? Drop Earwig right on top of your modular rig. Want a little overdrive for your keys? Place Earwig next to your keyboard’s controls.
Want more sounds than just fuzz and overdrive? Don’t tell anyone, but we’re hard at work on other flavors of tiny pedals, as well as a pedalboard that fits in your pocket. Shhh!
Why are other fuzz pedals so big? Like, really big?
We’re aware that an effects pedal this tiny is a bit ridiculous. Much like the story behind our Cicada overdrive, it really did begin with the completely absurd question, “What if we made the world’s smallest fuzz pedal?” What started out as a lark quickly turned into an ambitious engineering exercise to see if it could be done. And we quickly learned that by challenging our notions of what an effects pedal has to be, a whole new world of possibilities opened up that we never expected.
Earwig features one TRRS jack combining input, output, and power. Earwig comes with a TRRS breakout cable for your connections. Blue is INPUT, red is OUTPUT, and black is POWER. Pro tip: If you’re using Earwig on a Pedaltrain® pedalboard, you can easily hide the breakout cable and your connections under the board.
The whole pedal is the switch. It’s hinged at the top. Press below the knobs to turn it on. Press again to turn it off. Yes you can press it with your foot, even if you step on the knobs.
Even though Earwig is small, its switch mechanism has been tested to withstand up to 250 pounds of force. That said, we don’t refer to it as a “stomp” box. Don’t press the pedal with all of your weight—a light tap will do the trick.
